Feeding for performance often refers to the muscle development, topline and condition of the horse, commonly using the moniker 'Fit not Fat'. To develop good quality muscle requires a quality protein source or a source of the amino acids to provide the building blocks of protein. However, providing quality protein within the diet is fraught with challenges. Excess energy and weight increase from unwanted calories is a common problem, as are metabolic and gastric conditions.

Supplementing an effective amino acid profile is a much more efficient way of supporting muscle development, but the job doesn't stop with muscle building. Ensuring the muscle is kept healthy and functioning throughout work and rest periods is almost more important than muscle mass.
