Oestress
Oestress

A mare's ovaries are located just behind where the saddle sits, so during times of seasonal stress when the ovaries swell and become sore, she may become extra sensitive to grooming, tacking up or pressure during riding. Soreness can also affect her ability and desire to use her quarters and lengthen strides to their maximum. In addition to changes in her handling and ridden movements, she can become distracted and lack concentration, especially if she's keen to stay in her stable or is acting like the alpha mare.

The mare's oestrus cycle typically runs between spring and autumn, lasting around three weeks, with one week in-season and two weeks out of season. In recent years though, we've seen more mares cycling for longer, and even throughout the whole year. One reason for this may be the growth of American barn style stabling systems. The mare's season is controlled not by the seasonal temperature, but by day length. If your mare is stabled where artificial lighting is used regularly, it may be extending the natural day length, therefore you could see her cycling all year round.

Oestress

NAF delivers Extra Performance for the health and happiness of your mare. NAF understands how delicate the hormonal balance is and how it can easily be disturbed by modern day stabling and routines and how this in turn affects handling and competition performance. To help the mare's system rebalance NAF have formulated Oestress, naturally, for Five Star Performance.

Oestress delivers Extra Performance over the traditional hormonal support of agnus castus by delicately combining additional crampbark and black cohosh to help the mare to perform to her best throughout the season. Its natural formula also makes it easy to use and to deliver.

Five Star Tips

• Don't get caught out - often the first seasons of the year are the most dramatic!

• Maintain her ideal weight, there is an association between mare behaviour and excess weight

• Supplements including agnus castus can also be useful for rigs or 'riggy' geldings

• Turn mares out as much as practical to encourage natural cycling

• Some mares respond better or faster to supplements in liquid form
